Meeting Points by Bassam Abou Diab (Beirut) and Kathryn Gordon (Shetland)

Exploring human connection and political divides. ‘We are living in an era of transition’

This is a choreography about the awkward meeting between two strangers. On the surface it explores only that, looking at the nuances we show when meeting someone knew: the coyness, apprehension and flirtation. However, we delve into deeper consequences of human connection: of race, linguistics and of politics, looking at the unstable political situations.

Bassam Abou Diab is an experienced Lebanese choreographer and Founder of Beirut Physical Lab

Meeting Points was funded by British Council through Dance Base (Edinburgh) and Yaraqa Dance (Beirut). It has been performed in both places.

A lebanese man and a Scottish woman lock eyes across a space. They explore different ways of connecting, through movement, voice, exploring human connection and political divides.

‘We are living in an era of transition’ and their sometimes natural, sometimes clunky meeting between them shares with the audience the transitions we go through as humans: the transitions between connecting, getting to know each other, understanding one another and the sharing of life’s ups and downs.

A special thank-you to Yaraqa Dance, Dance Base, Emma Jayne Park and the whole Precipiate Team (Natasha, Sarah and Liz).
